The Story — In Their Words
I want this song to tell the story of my journey and how this marriage represents a full-circle moment for me. I experienced so many failed relationships, each ending worse than the one before it. I constantly tried to convince myself that each person was 'the one,' even though they weren't.
After years of failure, I was so crushed and frustrated that I simply gave up on finding someone. Following my last relationship, I took a two-month vacation to travel through different countries and focus on myself. This trip changed my life, though I didn't realize it at the time.
It was on my flight home that I first met my now-fiancé. He was in the seat next to me, and because it was a long flight, we talked quite a bit about why we were traveling and what we had experienced. However, when we arrived, we didn't exchange contact information. At that time, I was still healing, so the idea of him being a potential partner didn't even cross my mind.
Three months after that flight, I ran into him at a park near where I lived. We went to get coffee, exchanged numbers this time, and the rest is history.
I really want this song to portray the idea that love happens effortlessly; no matter how hard you force it, it won't happen if it's not with the right person.
Lyrics
Verse 1
I waited for my day in the sun
How long until I find the one?
I've searched and I've tried
My well ran dry
Verse 2
Every time I'd give my heart
It would only be torn apart
With nowhere left to hide
Feeling empty inside
Chorus 1
Before you
Life was a dress rehearsal
Sand slipping through my hands
Before you
I lived through pain and betrayal
But they brought me where I stand:
Before you
Now I stand before you
Verse 3
Do you believe in love at first sight?
When we shared that one long flight?
Like I've known you for years
You suddenly appeared
Verse 4
Three months later, I saw you again
As if fate has played a hand
You have quenched my soul
You have made me whole
Outro
I waited for my day in the sun
Now I finally found the one

The Story — In Their Words
We met in our freshman year of college. We took a lot of classes together, so we ended up studying and doing homework together all the time. After we graduated, we still kept in touch, and we developed this silly tradition of doing our taxes at a bar every year.
At that point, we were still just friends; looking back now, we both had feelings for each other, but neither of us acted on them. It wasn't until one year, after we finished our silly tradition, that we had a few drinks and started to talk about what we wanted in life. That conversation started everything.
After a few more drinks, she grabbed my arm and dragged me onto the dance floor because her favorite song was playing. After that night, we started dating, and five years later, here we are, ready to get married.
Lyrics
Verse 1
First day I met you I already knew
Something 'bout your energy just pulled me to you
Few days in and it felt like months had passed
Didn't wanna think about it going too fast
You had a flight to catch, bags by the door
I'm standing there like damn, what we doing this for
But then your phone went off and you showed me the screen
Cancelled flight, girl that changed everything
I said come with me, you smiled and said okay
Didn't know that one moment would make you wanna stay
Young and wild and in love with nowhere to be
Just you and me
Chorus 1
Cancelled flight, best thing that ever happened
Had me thinking fate was in the plan
Young and reckless, madly in love
Wasn't ready then but now it's understood
We went through it all, came back around
And I ain't letting go this time, I put that down
Cancelled flight, brought you right back to me
Now I'm making you my lady permanently
Bridge
Just us in the room, no noise, no outside
The way you look at me girl I feel it every time
We ain't perfect but we perfect for each other
Done looking, done running, you the one, no other
Ring on your finger that's where this is going
Seeds we planted back then finally showing
Cancelled flight turned into a forever thing
Who knew that delay would make you my everything
